Stephen Corley is a California native who learned the wine business quite literally from the ground up. In 1981 at 13 years of age, he went to work on the family’s winery construction site and for the next five summers worked in the cellar helping produce Monticello Vineyards and Corley Reserve wines.
Following graduation from Southern Methodist University and a 7-year career at KPMG Audit, Tax, and Consultancy, Corley returned to home soil, joining his father Jay and two of his seven siblings, Kevin and Chris, at the winery. Over much of the last two-plus decades, his priority has been the sales, hospitality, community service and charitable undertakings of the winery.
Corley currently serves on the Board of the Napa Valley Vintner’s Community Health Center and provides additional services to Napa County’s First Five Napa Network Commission’s Cohort #2– an organization that focuses on long-term change for the lives of young children through improving their family communities. His stewardship includes past board directorships of Visit Napa Valley, Napa Valley Vintners, Board of Auction Napa Valley and the Board of the Wine Institute – the voice for the California Wine Industry.
About the Corley Family Vineyards
In 1808, Thomas Jefferson said “… We could, in the United States, make as great a variety of wines as are made in Europe, not exactly of the same kinds but doubtless as good.”
220 Vintages later, The Corley Family paid homage to Jefferson’s prediction with the release of their 2018 Monticello Vineyards Jefferson Cuvee on the President’s 277th birthday – April 13, 2020. The family kicked-off their semi-centennial Anniversary Celebration with the release of their iconic Jefferson Cuvee, which will be followed most significantly by the release of the flagship CORLEY RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon this fall.
Founder Jay Corley made his foray into the industry in 1970 as a winegrower, eventually making the move from grower to vintner with the release of his 1980 Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Adamant about maintaining Monticello Vineyards as a family-owned and -managed venture, four of Jay’s seven children are at the helm of the business today: Kevin, Chris, Stephen, and Kent.
The family farms five vineyards in the Napa Valley and produces approximately 15,000 cases of ultra- premium wine annually – most of which is designated Monticello Vineyards. Varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Red Wine and Sparkling Wine. The CORLEY designation is for their Reserve Wines, and MONTREAUX is their sparkling wine.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the serene setting and gracious Corley family hospitality in the gardens of winery’s Jefferson House which offers a stunning a 360-degree view of the valley, in the intimate tasting rooms or Jefferson House Dining Room.
